Renewal

What the client asked for

Renewal is a non-profit organization that facilitates transplants for those suffering from chronic kidney disease. They came to us wanting to convert an existing warehouse space into a new community facility office space. The project would involve expanding the space considerably, both vertically and horizontally.

The challenges we faced

Our main priority was to maximize the potential of the relatively narrow infill lot. This wasn’t a “nice to have” but rather a “must have” because of the specific needs of the client.

Beyond that, we wanted to help establish Renewal’s brand identity by drawing in warm, human-centered design elements that emphasized the idea of hope.

How we overcame the challenges

We carefully crafted the layout to accommodate the client's needs within a limited space. The offices are on the upper floors, with board and conference rooms at both ends to maximize the natural light. We also installed skylights in each office. At the front, there's a central conference room next to a reception desk and an attractive greenery feature wall.

We’re proud of the feature wall, and the green roof we installed in the horizontal rear extension. Both features draw nature into the building. (It’s located on a busy commercial street in Borough Park, Brooklyn.)

The exterior features faux wood cladding that also helps create an atmosphere of warmth and hope. Renewal does important work, and now they can do so in an attractive and inspiring office space.
